Chapter 271 San Jacinto Pier
Chapter 271 San Jacinto Pier
However, after looking at her buttocks, Aaron still turned around and coughed at Claire.
"Ahem!"
After giving a soft reminder, he whispered to Claire.
"Claire, didn't you want to go to Houston to see the ocean? Why are you suddenly thinking about how to exchange for massage sticks?" "That's not something you should be thinking about. We can stay here for a few more days. Shouldn't we be thinking about how to exchange for supplies, store food, and prepare to eat on the road?" "Of course, and weapons and bullets too. We should exchange those old, broken guns we found for the better ones in the camp. We also need a considerable amount of bullets. We'll have to work to exchange for all of these!" As he spoke, Aaron mentally calculated the camp's exchange rate for supplies, estimating how much work he would need to do to get what he needed. As for this so-called exchange rate, it was naturally the result of Thomas's discussion with Gavin.
The departure of Lone Ranger Philip had served as a wake-up call for Thomas, making him realize that even his seemingly perfect Gavin Camp couldn't attract every survivor to stay. Therefore, while it wasn't likely that many would choose to leave after a few days like Philip, Thomas and Gavin still negotiated a temporary exchange rate for supplies for this group. After all, Thomas and Gavin didn't want to treat survivors who didn't intend to stay at the camp long-term as official members. In short, after a brief calculation...
Aaron, who wasn't particularly good at math, reluctantly admitted that he was having trouble figuring things out.
So he shook his head helplessly, and then continued speaking to Claire.
"Damn it, I'm a bit confused. Anyway, I think if we want to get enough supplies to leave, we'll probably have to work here for at least a week or ten days, and we'll have to be really hardworking." "The supplies here are free, but that's actually worse, because we can only get what we want by working!" "Under these circumstances, you actually want to use your precious labor certificates to exchange for a... vibrator?"
At this point, Aaron glanced unhappily at his belly, then patted his waist and hips, and continued.
"Don't you guys think my thing is more perfect than a vibrator?"
"Hehe..."
After hearing Aaron's words, Claire and Sienna remained silent for a moment, then exchanged glances and burst into laughter that made Aaron both embarrassed and annoyed. After laughing, Claire spoke with an indifferent expression.
"Aaron, don't overthink it. We're still quite satisfied with you, but... how should I put it, the vibrator is different, it's different!" "Besides, we'll have to stay here for at least ten days to two weeks before we can get what we want. So what if we stay a day or two longer than planned?" "You don't need to help with this. We can save up the extra money ourselves. I saw some extra jobs on the work board: kitchen helper, milking cows, and horse grooming. I can do all of those. I'll go grab the suitable jobs in a bit."
"Speaking of which, the atmosphere here is really nice. Even though we all said we were leaving, no one discriminated against or isolated us!" "That's unbelievable!"
At this point, Claire raised her hand with a sigh and patted Aaron's little belly.
Sienna licked her lips and nodded to Claire.
They're determined to get that vibrating stick, and nobody can stop them from accumulating work tickets!
And so, Claire and Sienna, their resolve rekindled by a single stick, quickly threw themselves into their new task. As for Aaron…
As he watched the two women walk further and further away side by side, he shook his head helplessly.
He knew all along that Sienna and Claire were the real love, and he was just an extra!
Or rather... he was just a shared toy for Sienna and Claire, a gay couple in the apocalypse!
But...why not go to Houston to see the sea?
It's kind of silly...
But Aaron was truly moved!
As he imagined himself rushing towards the sea, he felt the same way he had when he tried cliff diving, or when he challenged himself to build vodka snowdrifts with friends, or even when he tried downhill skiing. He couldn't help but worry about the unknown journey, yet that worry only fueled his anticipation for that future when he would finally see the sea!
Of course, what he was most worried about was...
When his whole world consisted of only him, Claire, and Sienna.
They are each other's third, and an indispensable part of each other.
And now…
Damn it, they were surrounded by more than a hundred people, most of whom were all kinds of sexy men!
From its inception, Camp Gavin has had a strong tradition of group fitness, resulting in even guys like Horst, who were in terrible shape before the apocalypse, now having some respectable muscles. Under these circumstances, Aaron, who once considered himself Claire and Sienna's everything, is now just one of seventy or eighty men in Camp Gavin… He really wants to see that sea.
By then, he will still be Claire and Sienna's only choice, and their everything, won't he?
He just wanted to be the most special one!
Thinking of this, Aaron silently gritted his teeth.
He felt he had to speed up his departure from Camp Gavin.
Furthermore, he also wanted to try his best to persuade Sienna, who no longer wanted to leave, to leave with him.
So, if he wants to exchange for necessary supplies faster, relying solely on earning work coupons by taking on various logistical jobs is far too slow! So, should he participate in fieldwork?
The exchange rate for field work is double that of support work, and field work also offers additional bonuses!
With that thought in mind, Aaron silently bit his lip.
He'll need to take a little risk!
However, there shouldn't be much to risk, since the field staff at the camp haven't suffered any major losses so far.
The only field operative who died was killed by a bear, not bitten to death by a damned zombie!
and so……
Aaron took a deep breath.
He made up his mind; he would apply to do fieldwork tomorrow.
Hopefully, I can be assigned to a reliable field team!
Just as Aaron was silently making his decision.
On the other hand, southwest of Livingston Lake, outside the San Jacinto Pier.
Gavin, rifle in hand, joined Eugene and the others, sticking their guns out of the vehicle and repeatedly pulling the trigger at the dozens of zombies charging towards them. With each burst of muzzle flash, short, loud shots ripped apart the heads of zombie after zombie. As the last zombie fell to the ground, Gavin sheathed his rifle and pulled out the magazine.
If he remembers correctly, there should only be three bullets left in this magazine.
So Gavin pressed his thumb against the tip of the top bullet in the magazine.
As he continued to increase the force of his movements, bullets flew out of the magazine one after another, hitting his legs.
Gavin put away the bullets, put the empty magazine back into the ammunition pouch, and then put the prepared full magazine back into the rifle.
Release the safety and load the gun.
Gavin patted the HK-416 and whispered to the men in the vehicle who were also packing up their magazines.
"Which batch is this? Is this the third batch?"
"That's right, boss, this is the third batch. We've taken down at least 120 zombies!"
Eugene responded excitedly from the driver's seat; he always got this excited when it came to using a gun.
Gavin nodded in response, then put the gun back on his lap, gripped the steering wheel with both hands, and said...
"One hundred and twenty? Judging from this number, there might be at least a hundred more resident hunters hiding in the San Jacinto dock." "Although we don't have accurate data on this, the ratio of hunters to resident hunters in the various counties we've encountered so far has generally been about 50/50. We can estimate the approximate number of resident hunters by looking at the number of ordinary hunters."
"So don't fucking let your guard down, San Jacinto is going to be even more dangerous for us."
"Get ready. Once you've packed your weapons, we'll drive back and head into San Jacinto to thoroughly clean every house and boat!" "This job has to be done in one go!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin took out a cigarette, put it in his mouth, and lit it.
Just as Gavin exhaled smoke, Eugene unceremoniously reached into Gavin's cigarette case and took a few cigarettes.
After offering cigarettes to the men, Eugene, with a cigarette dangling from his lips, smiled at Gavin.
"Don't worry, boss, we're professionals. We've cleaned up similar towns many times before."
"Compared to the areas we've explored in the past, the buildings at the San Jacinto docks are quite scattered, and the roads are relatively wide, making it easy for us to escape by car." "So I think the only place we might encounter danger is the boats moored at the docks. If we encounter the Howlers hiding on one of the boats during our exploration, those impatient individuals summoned by the Howlers might be able to trap us inside the boat."
"So, let's clean up all the buildings on land first before we deal with the boats on the lake!"
At this point, Eugene exhaled a puff of smoke out of the car window and then looked at Gavin.
Gavin nodded slightly in agreement.
"The safest plan is to proceed as you suggested: land first, then ships!"
"If we encounter the Howlers on the ground, there's no need to rush to escape. We can drive and lure the lingers together to fight, just like we dealt with the previous Hunters." With that, Gavin casually tossed away his cigarette butt, started the car, and headed towards the dock.
The task of clearing out the remaining inhabitants remained cautious and lengthy. Gavin stayed in the car, ready to respond at any moment, while Eugene led his men around the still-running car, crawling into house after house nearby. Gunshots rang out intermittently, along with the occasional sounds of close combat and the men's short, low growls that echoed from inside the houses.
Gavin, however, was no longer particularly nervous about such things; he was used to it, and his men were already accustomed to similar operations. And so, as the vehicle slowly moved forward, house after house was thoroughly cleared by the men.
San Jacinto was originally a small port town, and the town built around it had no more than sixty households.
Until the last house was cleaned, the crew encountered no more howls, and so they continued their journey from land to lake. Only here did the tension rise slightly; the exploration by boat was clearly much slower than on land.
They worked until around 4 p.m. before Eugene and his team finally managed to secure the last boat in San Jacinto.
As Eugene led the group away from the last barge, wiping his short spiked club, he jumped onto the dock and shouted to Gavin, who was sitting in the car, "Haha, boss, finally done! I really hope those bastards Edward and his gang aren't too much slower than us!"
"If I remember correctly, the Caprera pier they went to is smaller than ours, so they must have finished a long time ago." "I wonder what dinner will be tonight, haha. Ever since there were more cooks at the camp, the food has been a bit off. An unprofessional cook is no match for Doris!" As he spoke, Eugene didn't hold back his voice at all; his voice was almost loud.
However, this was a necessary action. After clearing out the remaining inhabitants, Eugene wasn't worried about attracting any zombies; in fact, he was quite hoping his shouts would bring out one or two of the last remaining survivors. And Gavin...
Seeing the lazy Eugene, he shrugged boredly and called out to his men from a distance.
"Stop dawdling and get back to the car. Let's hurry back to the helicopter; we might still make it in time for a hot dinner!"
"Alright, boss, coming!"
Eugene chuckled and climbed back into the car, and the group left the San Jacinto pier, returning to the helicopter camp that Sean and his men were guarding. Nearly fourteen minutes after their return, Edward's team also returned safely.
After gathering enough men, Gavin and his team cut some branches to provide basic cover for the makeshift camp, then took a helicopter back to the camp. Not long after, they were sitting at the table enjoying a hot dinner.
Texas is not small, but it doesn't seem particularly big when compared to a helicopter.
After the meal, just as Gavin left the table...
Martin caught up with Gavin and, ignoring the others around them, whispered to Gavin.
"Wait, boss, there's something I need to tell you."
"This morning, around the same time, my buddies and I were out in Athens as usual searching and moving supplies when we spotted a fucking helicopter!" "What?!"
Upon hearing this, Gavin became interested and quickly led Martin to the hall, where he unfolded a map and began to chat with Martin.
Martin recounted all of his team's speculations to Gavin, including the helicopter's model and its initial approximate flight direction. He also expressed his desire to lead a search team to investigate the possible flight path of the helicopter.
After confirming that Martin and his group had only chased the helicopter for less than five minutes before completely losing track of it, Gavin pondered for a moment and ultimately rejected Martin's suggestion.
"Martin."
He patted Martin on the shoulder and said.
"You only followed the helicopter for less than five minutes. With that time and distance, it's impossible to prove that the helicopter's flight direction was definitely towards their camp." "After all, you don't even know what kind of work that helicopter was doing."
"If we have to rely on the existing clues to search, the workload is simply too huge, no less than looking for a needle in a haystack, isn't it?" "So, don't pay them any attention, and continue doing what we have to do."
"As long as they're still interested in us, they'll reveal their location sooner or later. We just need to wait; there's no need for any extra risks, at least that's what I think!"
