Chapter 89 Forced Bylaws
Chapter 89 Forced Bylaws
Chapter 89 Forced to Return
"mouse?"
Upon hearing this, Madison's eyes widened suddenly.
Steve and Eugene both lowered their guns and turned to look at Gavin.
"It could even be a zombie rat!"
Steve couldn't help but chime in, nervously rubbing the grip of his gun and grimacing with a pained expression on his bearded face.
"This is absolutely terrible! I don't want to face those damn little things. You're right, we have to have cats, we absolutely have to have hundreds, even thousands of cats!"
At this point, Steve irritably took off his hat and rubbed his hair.
Gavin remained silent for a moment, then gently shook his head and said.
"There might not be many zombie rats, after all, what reason would rats have to attack zombies?"
"What, in a future world where the natural environment is destined to increase dramatically, will the rats be so starving that they'll resort to gnawing on the skin off zombies' feet?"
"Besides, even if rats attack zombies, it would be very difficult for the zombies to catch the rats and give them a bite."
"Similarly, the same applies to cats. Even if a cat attacks a zombie, given their agility, it would be very difficult for the zombie to catch and infect it."
At this point, Gavin couldn't help but smile for a moment.
After he had gathered enough information about the zombies, he was genuinely happy that he no longer had to deal with hordes of zombie rats.
Noticing Gavin's smile, Steve calmed down a bit, then shook his head and sighed.
"That's good. Hearing you say that makes me feel a little more at ease."
"However, besides rats, the number of animals like rabbits will probably also surge this year."
"Herbivores are unlikely to be infected by zombies, but carnivores are quite the opposite. Therefore, I worry that in a few years, the herbivore population will be uncontrollable!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Steve looked eastward with concern, where he could vaguely see traces of farmland.
Hearing Steve say this, Eugene pulled back the bolt, smashed a zombie's head from 1,700 meters away, and asked in return.
"Great! We'll never lack rabbits again. So, is there any other good news?"
"You call this good news? Because we don't need to eat rabbits anymore? Don't be ridiculous!"
Steve retorted to Eugene and explained.
"I don't even need to mention other animals, just rabbits. Once the rabbit population starts to explode in recent years, it won't be long before the grasslands are riddled with holes from their digging!"
"You think rabbits taste good now, but when your horse gets its leg broken by that damn rabbit hole, you'll think they taste even better!"
At this point, Steve was already gritting his teeth.
Seeing this, Madison remained silent for a moment before finally asking a question.
"Hey buddy, has your horse ever had this happen before?"
"No, but I have a few friends who have encountered similar situations. Normally, we take hunting rifles and dogs to hunt rabbits every summer and autumn, in order to minimize such incidents."
"Alright, the zombies are close enough, time to fire, guys!"
Gavin interrupted Steve, raised his hand, and fired the last few bullets from the magazine at the zombies that were approaching within five or six hundred meters.
After he quickly changed magazines, Madison and Eugene also picked up HKs and started shooting.
The zombies charging straight at you aren't too hard to spot, at least in terms of their trajectory. The only problem is that their bodies twist and twitch from time to time as they charge, making it hard to aim their heads.
Gavin didn't aim specifically, because the horde of zombies in front of them was the kind they could never defeat.
So Gavin decided to practice his gun control while firing in bursts, and emptied another magazine in just a few seconds.
The three HK guns fired continuously, and the accuracy was not very high, but by the time the zombies reached the river, they still left dozens of corpses along the way.
And they can cross the river much faster than dogs.
As the horde of corpses drew ever closer, Eugene instinctively began to shake his leg, while Madison remained impassive, fighting his way back to the raptor.
Gavin then emptied another magazine, jumped onto his horse, and said.
"Let's go, lead them towards the forest..."
"Boss, this is Winnie. We'd like to clean up the bloodstains outside before it gets dark. What do you think?"
Before Gavin could finish speaking, everyone's walkie-talkies suddenly went off.
Upon hearing Winnie's voice, Gavin was slightly taken aback, and immediately spoke loudly to Eugene and the other two.
"Get on horseback, get on the vehicle, and run towards the forest! Leave the zombies behind as fast as you can!"
"Also, in future operations, in situations where silence is required, immediately turn off your walkie-talkies!"
At this point, Gavin spurred his horse into a gallop while simultaneously turning on his walkie-talkie and responding to Winnie.
"Okay, remember to bring your gun and keep an eye on your surroundings at all times."
Gavin wouldn't treat his support staff like canaries, keeping them at home from the start.
As long as they don't cause any major trouble, Gavin won't dampen their enthusiasm when they want to take initiative.
Winnie should have smiled after receiving Gavin's permission, but she couldn't smile at all because they heard bursts of gunfire and the howls of a large number of zombies over the intercom!
In that instant, Winnie nervously gripped the walkie-talkie, instinctively wanting to say something.
But after a long silence, she finally hung the walkie-talkie on her sling and spoke to Bella and Doris.
"Let's go. Before it gets dark, while we can still see our surroundings and the distance, let's quickly fetch some water and clean up the bloodstains in the yard."
"Was that a gunshot?"
Bella couldn't help but ask Winnie, who nervously pursed her lips and then quickly nodded in response.
"The leaders aren't the kind of people who go out to the hillside to kill time; they go there to fight, and not just for themselves!"
"Come on, Bella, and Mom too, we're so lucky to have met our eldest!"
"Hmm~"
Upon hearing Winnie's words, Bella picked up the bucket, smiled, and nodded at Winnie.
"I'm really lucky to be alive here. If I had replaced the boss and his gang with the fraternities from our school, I reckon I would have been turned from ice cold to scalding hot the moment I got ashore yesterday, haha~"
"Bella!"
Doris, blushing at Bella's words, quickly retorted in a low voice.
Seeing Doris blush, Bella casually replied.
"Ha, you little brat wouldn't know anything... Wait... Why is Doris blushing, not you, Winnie?"
"Pshaw, I've already seen those videos on the computer, and my mom prefers watching hardcore porn..."
"Winnie!!!"
Before Winnie could finish speaking, Doris silenced her with a kiss!
"When...when did you use my computer?!"
Doris's face flushed red, and her chest heaved with anger.
Seeing her mother panting with anger, Winnie pulled her hand away, pointed irritably at the bucket and the flusher, and said...
"Don't waste time making a fuss, Doris, we still have so much to do."
"Stop mimicking Gavin's tone, kid, let's get to work!"
Bella tapped Winnie on the head, and then the three of them went to the door and waved to William at the second-floor window.
"William, did you hear our request to the boss?"
"I heard you. I'll go out with you. Although my legs aren't very good, I'm actually a pretty good shot. I'll do everything I can to protect you!"
William spoke to the three men from a distance, then staggered to his feet, picked up his rifle with uneven steps, and went down the corridor toward the door.
Winnie and the other two waited for him to open the door before following him out, filled with emotion.
When the end of the world comes, even if no one emphasizes or demands anything, some changes will actually happen quietly without anyone noticing.
Just like the three women in the team, they have all begun to respect men and are happy to receive their protection.
The more dead people I saw, the more blood I got on my hands.
The more people want to be among the dead, the less they want to be.
In order to live, and to live better, people are never afraid of losing something.
At least Doris and her two companions didn't, like in melodramatic movies and TV shows, emphasize freedom, democracy, and human rights in this environment.
In order to maintain their current lifestyle, they don't mind sacrificing a little bit of so-called freedom.
Meanwhile, near a river more than 20 kilometers east of the manor.
Gavin and his two companions rode their horses, dangling in front of the zombies, occasionally turning back to fire a few shots.
They maintained a speed of nearly forty kilometers per hour, slowly shaking off the zombie horde as much as possible, and reducing the number of zombies in the process.
Madison, bored, drove on...
Okay, he's really bored right now, because anyone who's ever driven a car knows how disgusting a speed of 40 kilometers per hour is.
So he picked up the walkie-talkie and spoke.
"I need to get a horse quickly, am I really incapable of riding a racehorse?"
"Ha, now you know the benefits of riding a horse, but your legs are too long; the stirrups can't even reach the racehorse's belly."
Steve put down his gun, picked up the walkie-talkie, and spoke to him.
"Especially the Arabian horse Eugene rode. If you ride a small racehorse, your center of gravity is off to the side and you can flip the horse over when you turn."
"Although the Shire horses and Alden horses are considered bridle horses, no one uses them for hauling goods anymore; they are all bred to be mounts."
"Although they are a bit slower, they are not that much slower. Besides, some people like those huge creatures. You'll like them too once you see them."
As soon as he finished speaking, Steve sped up slightly and walked over to Gavin.
"I'm almost out of bullets, how about you?"
"I have a little bit left, but it doesn't matter. Let's speed up, completely shake them off, and then pinpoint their trajectory."
Gavin agreed, then spurred his horse to speed up, leaving the zombie horde a hundred meters behind in the blink of an eye.
Eugene followed while speaking into the walkie-talkie.
"Old Mike, if you don't like driving, then we'll... blah blah blah... switch!"
"Fuck, this weather is so cold! I feel like there's not a single warm spot on my body except for my thighs!"
"Haha, you'll feel great all over except for your thighs tonight~"
Steve laughed as he approached Eugene, reached up and retrieved a small, silvery-white flask from the horse's back, and tossed it to him.
"Next, give yourself a swig. Remember to bring some strong liquor for the next mission. Besides keeping it warm, it can also disinfect, and it'll give you one last satisfying swig when you're completely surrounded by the undead!"
"No problem, thanks a lot, but I still... tug-tug... really want to turn on the air conditioning!"
Eugene took the flask with trembling hands, twisted off the cap, and took a swig.
"ha……"
After exhaling a breath of alcohol, the hot air rushed down his throat into his stomach, making him purse his lips in comfort.
As the group continued to accelerate, the zombies were quickly left behind and disappeared from sight.
Within minutes, Gavin reached the edge of the forest.
He glanced back and confirmed that the zombie had been thrown more than 1.4 kilometers away.
He then made a gesture, and the three of them immediately changed direction, running along the edge of the forest for another minute or so before stopping to observe the traces of the zombies.
Gavin reined in his horse, took out his binoculars, glanced at Eugene who was still trembling, and spoke.
"I've just run out of revolver bullets. After we confirm the zombie trail, the three of you get in the car. I'll take your horses; we need to go home and resupply some ammo."
"Didn't ask... blah blah blah... No problem!"
Eugene nodded eagerly.
During the previous fall into the water, Steve only got half of his body wet, but Eugene was completely soaked.
The near-freezing wind, while not enough to freeze you into ice like in winter, still made you shiver uncontrollably.
Steve watched as the zombies chased after their last sounds, rushing into the relatively dark forest, before finally letting out a long sigh of relief.
"They don't seem too difficult to deal with."
Steve said optimistically to Gavin.
Upon hearing this, Gavin nodded noncommittally and smiled.
"In the face of the human mind, any creature that is not numerous enough is not difficult to deal with; the key is quantity."
"That's right, we have... blah blah blah... brains... hiss~ so cold!"
Eugene immediately jumped off his horse, quickly unloaded the weapons from its back, and rushed onto the wagon with them in his arms.
Gavin then pointed to the car and reminded Steve.
"You get in too, buddy."
"I probably don't need to, only my legs are wet."
Steve replied, and Gavin shook his head in response.
"We only have one veterinarian right now, so I don't want anyone to risk getting sick to do things."
After saying that, Gavin pointed to the car, and Steve remained silent for a moment before dismounting and putting away his weapons.
After Steve got into the car, Gavin whistled loudly, signaling the two racehorses to gallop towards the estate.
Another twenty minutes passed, and the group returned to the manor area.
From a distance, William warily spotted the figures and, after confirming it was Gavin and his group, put his gun away.
Winnie and the other two put down their buckets, put on their blood-stained rubber gloves, and went to greet Gavin.
While Gavin dismounted and tied up the horses, Eugene swaggered down from the raptor and began gesturing wildly at Doris and the other two.
"You'd never guess what we've done, Mazefak! We're practically war gods, every single one of us is a war god!"
"Really, soldier? Are you trying to tell me you guys went to take a shower?"
Bella chuckled and gave Eugene the middle finger, then moved closer to Steve, examining his pants as she spoke.
"On the farm, I still trust the cowboys more. What trouble have you run into?"
"Big trouble, zombie dogs, over a hundred of them!"
Steve spoke harshly to Bella, his words immediately silencing Doris and the other two.
However, before Doris and the other two could even feel nervous for a moment, Madison got out of the car with a smile and said...
"Don't scare them. It is indeed a pack of hundreds of zombie dogs, but who is our leader? He is our God of War!"
"Because he led us to send those dead dogs to bite God's ass, hahaha!"
