Chapter Fifteen: The Hyena Attack

The same applies to hyenas. Hyenas allow other animals to roam their territory, but lions are an exception.

From this perspective, lions and hyenas are indeed irreconcilable enemies.

Lions will attack hyenas if they encounter them. Even if they kill the hyenas, they generally will not eat them.

This could be because hyena meat is really not tasty, or it could be that the lion wasn't hungry.

Hyena packs will try to steal prey from lionesses once they have caught it. However, they disregard lionesses as long as the male lions are not present.

When Chu Ye saw these dozen or so hyenas moving around on the edge of their pride's territory, he knew they were up to no good. They were definitely after Jike's pride.

Generally speaking, the biggest threat to lion cubs is hyenas, which may be because there is a long history of conflict and grudges between hyenas and lions.

Chu Ye was also aware of this knowledge. When he saw this pack of hyenas operating in their territory, he knew that these guys must have some purpose.

"Damn, these despicable bastards, are they after us little lions?" Chu Ye, using human thinking, easily understood the hyenas' intentions.

In fact, these hyenas were also eyeing the Jike lion pride.

They certainly weren't thinking of hunting adult lions; their target was these cubs.

Generally speaking, hyenas do not attack lion cubs during the rainy season because they have plenty of prey to catch.

But things are different during the dry season. Due to food scarcity, hyenas are forced to risk hunting the young of other animals.

Lion cubs are one of the favorite delicacies of hyenas. During the dry season, large numbers of lion cubs are eaten by hyenas.

The leader of this hyena pack is named Nira. She is a very experienced female hyena and has been leading the pack for two or three years.

Queen Nira the hyena is currently leading a dozen or so members of her pride, scouting the pride's territory at the edge of the Jik lions' territory.

After several days of investigation, Nila learned that this pride was not very strong. It consisted of only one male lion and two female lions.

Not only is it not very strong, but it also raises ten lion cubs.

These ten lion cubs were only three months old and had absolutely no fighting ability.

After learning about the situation, Nila felt that it was worthwhile to launch a surprise attack on the lion pride. If successful, the ten lion cubs would become a delicious meal for the hyenas.

However, as long as the male lion is with his cubs, the hyenas dare not make any rash moves.

Hyenas are indeed formidable and can rival lions, but only against lionesses. They generally keep their distance from male lions, avoiding direct confrontation.

Generally speaking, as long as there is a male lion protecting the cubs in a pride, the cubs are relatively safe.

Even if the hyena queen saw that the pride had many cubs, she wouldn't dare lead her pack to steal food.

But if the male lion is not around, the hyenas will take the opportunity to steal the lion cubs.

Chu Ye felt uneasy upon discovering the group of hyenas scouting the border of his territory. These hyenas were unlike the male lions. The male lions came only to challenge the lion king; they didn't actually target the cubs directly.

After a male lion successfully seizes power, the reason he kills the cubs is not to eat them, but simply to allow the lionesses to reproduce.

Therefore, relatively speaking, a stray male lion may not pose as much of a threat to a pride as a pack of hyenas.

When Chu Ye saw these furtive hyenas, he sensed an uneasy atmosphere enveloping the lion cubs of the Jike pride.

Chu Ye desperately wanted to share his thoughts with the lion Jike, but unfortunately, he couldn't communicate with Jike. Therefore, Chu Ye could only observe and wait, pondering how he should deal with these despicable hyenas.

"Hey! Can't I use killer bees? Why not use killer bees to deal with these despicable hyenas!" Chu Ye thought of the tricks he had used before.

"If I can use killer bees to drive away a big male lion, can't I deal with this bunch of scoundrels?" Chu Ye felt that he could repeat his old trick and use killer bees to deal with this pack of hateful hyenas.

Of course, Chu Ye was oversimplifying things. The hyena is called the second-largest hyena in Africa for a reason; there's definitely a reason for it.

The next day, the weather was just as fine. It's the dry season, so it's rare to see cloudy or rainy days.

It's the dry season now, and lions often invade during the day. Today, Jike plans to take advantage of the cool morning weather to patrol his southern territory.

Because these lion invasions all came from the south.

Chu Ye and a group of lion cubs ran around under the big tree.

These lion cubs, regardless of whether it's the dry season or the rainy season, spend their days playing, except for drinking milk and eating some unpalatable meat.

Chu Ye was the same; he tensed up as soon as he heard the scream.

But the nine lion cubs continued jumping around. To them, the screams seemed to have nothing to do with them.

Upon hearing the scream, Chu Ye immediately scrambled up a tree and peered towards the north of the territory. His eyes widened in astonishment at the sight he saw.

A pack of spotted hyenas, about seventeen or eighteen in number, came running from the north of the territory. Led by a strong female leader, they charged directly at Chu Ye and his companions.

Clearly, the hyenas came prepared. They knew that the lion king, Jik, was not in this pride, so they decided to ambush this weak pride.

The leader of this hyena pack was Nila, who, through several days of observation, learned about some of the characteristics of this lion pride.
