Su Wan's smile remained unchanged: "The swimming pool is currently under renovation, so swimming is not possible."
—Don't think I don't know you're secretly trying to make a move on my husband.
"That's fine too~" Li Hui persisted, "I'll go to the garden to have a cup of coffee, smell the flowers, and soak up the sun, that would be nice too."
"The garden was just sprayed with pesticide..." Su Wanyu said gently, but one reason after another kept popping up.
"And Mengmeng and Vivian are about to give birth, so the house is in complete chaos."
"If you go, we'll have to take time off to be with you—it's not that we don't welcome you, it's just that the timing isn't really right."
Li Hui said "Oh," and turned her gaze to Lin Feng: "Then remember to call me when the time is right."
Lin Feng nodded: "No problem."
Su Wan took out her keys: "I'm going to lock the door now."
Li Hui tactfully left the room.
Su Wan locked the door, then naturally hooked her arm around Lin Feng's, leaning against him like a little bird, and waved to Li Hui.
"Huihui, we're going now."
The two walked down the stairs side by side, their backs looking so perfectly matched it was almost jarring.
Standing in the corridor, Li Hui pursed her lips at the two receding figures and muttered under her breath:
"Just wait till I find someone even more handsome and richer than Lin Feng—that'll make you furious!"
As soon as she finished speaking, her shoulders slumped like a deflated balloon.
"But where can I find someone like that? Even if I did, they might not even be interested in me. Sigh..."
She took a deep breath, straightened her back, and began to mentally prepare herself.
"Su Wan has nothing to envy... After all, she has to share Lin Feng with five S-class members, so they're sharing the spoils anyway."
"Unlike me, I'll find someone who's all mine, someone I can have all to myself. Isn't that great?"
"Besides..." she counted on her fingers, "What's so good about Lin Feng? He's just a little handsome, a little capable, a little nicer to his wife, and a little rich..."
As they counted, the sound grew softer and softer.
........................
As Lin Feng was leaving the faculty dormitory building and heading towards the School of Social Sciences, Su Wan gently pulled him from behind.
"Honey, you forgot something very important."
Lin Feng turned his head, his eyes filled with doubt: "Is there anything else?"
"You—" Su Wan pointed a finger at the tip of his nose, her eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief, "Since you're already here, why don't you go ask the old professor for a prescription?"
Lin Feng was stunned for a moment, then suddenly realized, raised his hand and slapped his forehead, bursting out laughing:
"Oh right, how could I have forgotten about that?"
He casually put his arm around Su Wan's waist, pulled her closer to him, and then lowered his head to rub his forehead against hers.
"My wife is the most considerate."
The two walked briskly along the quiet campus and soon arrived at the corridor of the Traditional Chinese Medicine teaching and research building of the adjacent medical school.
We walked to the end of the path and stopped in front of a half-open brown solid wood door.
An old bronze plaque is nailed to the side of the door frame, with neat small characters engraved on it:
Professor Chen Bo'an, Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine
The office was small, with a row of old wooden bookshelves against the wall, stretching from the floor to the ceiling, crammed with yellowed thread-bound books and medical journals lying haphazardly.
Directly opposite the door is a large, old-fashioned mahogany desk, its surface covered by a glass plate, beneath which lie some yellowed newspaper clippings and handwritten prescriptions.
Professor Chen Bo'an sat behind that desk, leaning against the worn-out old rattan chair, staring down at his phone.
The light from the phone screen flickered on his wrinkled face.
He was engrossed in watching, his right thumb tapping the screen repeatedly, clearly giving a thumbs-up.
A fast-paced song could be faintly heard from the phone, accompanied by a few sweet voices saying, "Thank you, brother, for lighting up my little heart."
Su Wan coughed lightly: "Professor Chen."
Chen Bo'an's fingers suddenly stopped, and he seemed to have been burned. He hurriedly turned off the phone screen and looked up.
The reading glasses slid down to the tip of the nose, and a pair of eyes looked over from above the lenses.
"Oh, it's Su Wan!" He coughed lightly and casually placed his phone on the table. "Come, come, have a seat."
Su Wan pulled Lin Feng in, and without any formalities, she got straight to the point:
"Professor Chen, could you prescribe a formula for me, something to tonify the kidneys, something with a strong effect?"
Chen Bo'an adjusted his reading glasses, looked Su Wan over again, and shook his head:
"Your complexion is rosy and you have plenty of energy, why would you need any supplements?"
Su Wan pursed her lips, reached out and pulled Lin Feng, pushing him half a step towards Chen Bo'an: "It's not me, it's my husband."
Chen Bo'an's gaze fell on Lin Feng, a scrutinizing look appearing in his eyes, and then he reached out his hand:
"Come on, young man, put your hand out."
Lin Feng did as instructed and extended his right hand.
Chen Bo'an placed three fingers on his wrist, gently pressing the pulse point with his fingertips, and closed his eyes.
The office fell silent.
About half a minute later, Chen Bo'an opened his eyes, released his grip, and a look of surprise appeared on his face:
"Young man, your physical condition... is definitely top-notch among humans. You have abundant qi and blood, strong muscles and bones, and a truly excellent foundation."
Before Lin Feng could say anything, Chen Bo'an followed up with his next sentence:
"However... I do have a bit of kidney deficiency, not severe, but the signs are already appearing."
Chen Bo'an's gaze swept back and forth between Su Wan and Lin Feng, and the corners of his mouth slowly curved into a promotional arc:
"Su Wan, isn't it... that you're asking for too much?"
Su Wan's face flushed red instantly.
What could she say?
She's saying her husband has more than one wife, five others?
I could never say that.
She could only bite her lip lightly and nod vaguely, her gaze unconsciously drifting to the side.
Chen Bo'an's expression gradually turned serious, and his tone changed, carrying a hint of reproach from an elder:
"Su Wan, you're supposed to be a counselor, where's your moral compass? How can you be thinking about this kind of thing all the time? Your addiction... it's a bit too much!"
Su Wan's face turned as red as a boiled shrimp, and she wished a crack would split open under her feet so she could just crawl into it.
"Professor Chen... I... I couldn't control myself." Su Wan's voice was barely audible, like a mosquito's hum. "Please prescribe this medicine for me, okay?"
Chen Bo'an shook his head and picked up the pen on the table: "It can be opened, though."
He paused, then looked up at Su Wan.
"However, it's not enough to just give it to your husband; I also need to give you one to cool you down."
"No need, no need, no need—" Lin Feng quickly waved his hand, speaking up before Su Wan could, "Why prescribe any medicine for her? She's perfectly healthy."
Chen Bo'an placed the pen on the table and said seriously:
"Young man, I know you love your wife dearly."
"But the Tao Te Ching says, 'Heaven takes from those who have too much and gives to those who have too little.'"
"If you keep sharing your knowledge without any restraint, you'll die young in the long run."
"For sustainable development, simply increasing revenue isn't enough; we also need to cut costs!"
