Chapter 1669 Li Shen Dialectics
Chapter 1669 Li Shen Dialectics
Li Shen felt that he was being treated like a fool.
Am I an ordinary person? I am not an ordinary person.
I am a time traveler, I can believe in metaphysics,
In fact, he also believes in cause and effect, but this cause and effect does not include the kind in the previous life.
He believes in cause and effect: today's cause will lead to tomorrow's effect.
Everything in the world is involved in cause and effect.
People committing crimes is the cause, and being punished by the law is the result.
Your lack of money is the cause, and your inability to find a wife is the result.
Quarrels due to incompatibility of personalities are the cause, and divorce is the result.
This applies to everything; it's an iron rule.
But it is definitely not what Xuanzang said.
He can use this set of words on anyone, a bad person, an ordinary person, a good person, he can use the same set of words.
Li Shen hates double-edged swordsmanship.
"Your Highness Prince Ji, I..." Xuanzang wanted to explain, but was interrupted by Li Shen:
"Master Xuanzang, I have always heard that you are eloquent and that the scriptures you have studied are mainly based on debate.
I also heard that you held various debate conferences in India and defeated many powerful enemies.
I want to ask, Master, if you have such a competitive spirit, does it count as greed and competitiveness in the precepts? "
Li Shen asked jokingly.
Li Shen does not understand the law, so in his opinion, if one wants to get rid of greed, anger, and ignorance, one should have no desires and no demands.
Buddhist debates, visiting famous temples in various places, debating with famous monks, and increasing fame after winning, isn’t this greed?
“Your Highness Prince Ji, the purpose of the Dharma Master’s debate is to better study and comprehend the Dharma.
In Buddhism, those who are proficient in the Buddhist scriptures, precepts and treatises are respected as Tripitaka Masters.
Master Xuanzang is the Tripitaka Master, and in theory he is one of the Tripitakas in the sacred texts. "
Before Xuanzang could speak, a monk standing behind him responded first.
This man was not tall, dressed in a monk's robe, and was about thirty years old.
Li Shen saw this person when he came in. This person and two other people had been following Xuanzang. Li Shen originally thought that they were ordinary monks responsible for serving them.
Now it seems not.
Moreover, Li Shen thought that this person looked somewhat different from the people from the Central Plains.
"Yuance must not be rude."
Xuanzang immediately admonished him, saying that the person in front of him was a prince, and if you were disrespectful to him, no matter whether you were a monk or a commoner, you would be punished.
"Yuance? I wonder who this Master Yuance is..." Li Shen asked. He had never heard of the name Yuance.
Of course, he had never heard of the names of most of the monks.
"Your Highness, this is my disciple. He started to practice Buddhism with me several years ago and also helped me translate the scriptures brought back from India."
Xuanzang introduced.
Wang Xuance then lowered his head and whispered in Li Shen's ear:
“Your Highness, this Yuance is of great descent. He is the grandson of the old King of Silla. He got married when he was young and came to Chang’an in the Tang Dynasty when he was a teenager.
He was proficient in six languages including Sanskrit and Tibetan, and was well versed in the commentaries on Abhidharma, Satyasiddhi, Abhidharmakosha, and Vaisheshika. He was quite famous at the time.
"Grandson of Silla?" Li Shen was very surprised to hear this. Being the grandson of a country is such a noble status.
This person did not stay at home to enjoy the wealth and glory, but actually got married and became a monk.
Li Shen felt that Yuance was not very smart.
Since he was a prince, Li Shen did not care about it. Li Shen admired his persistence.
“Haha, it’s okay. I just said that I was just clarifying doubts. Everyone, please don’t be restrained and speak freely.
This king is a very easy-going person.
What Master Yuance just said does make sense. I don't know much about Buddhism.
So if there are any mistakes, I hope Master Xuanzang can point them out. "
Li Shen said with a smile.
"Your Highness Prince Ji, you are too kind. People say that the prince is talented, well-read, and has unique insights into things.
What the prince said just now was quite Buddhist and contained a Zen meaning.
As the prince has seen, there are indeed some monks who travel around debating in order to seek fame.
This is a violation of the precept of greed.
The degree of this can only be controlled by one's own Buddha heart."
Xuanzang did not quibble and admitted it generously.
Argumentation is part of spiritual practice, but only you know what your intention is.
He is indeed a great monk, Li Shen thought to himself. His heart is like still water, like an ancient well without waves.
“Master Xuanzang, I am indeed too greedy and obsessed with money.
This year, I suffered heavy losses from Your Majesty. Not only did I lose millions of dollars, but I was also beaten by Your Majesty more than a dozen times.
Every time I was left covered in bruises, causing a double blow to my heart and body.
That is why I came to your temple today to seek Master Xuanzang’s help and seek solutions. I hope Master Xuanzang will give me some advice.”
Li Shen recounted his tragic experiences this year. Didn’t he come here just to cry out his heart?
Even if it can just help to ease my mind.
Li Shen's tone was very gentle and polite, but Xuanzang felt helpless after hearing it and came anyway.
The last time Li Shen said "I want to rebel", it almost broke Xuanzang's mind, but it was because Your Majesty was there at that time.
Is Prince Ji going to use this trick again this time?
He mentioned His Majesty right away and asked me to come up with a solution.
Does he still expect me to give him a clear way out and let him kill His Majesty?
Isn't this a great act of treason and rebellion against the Heavenly Gang?
But besides this method, what other methods are there?
"Why? Can't even Master Xuanzang help me solve my doubts?"
Seeing Xuanzang lost in thought, Li Shen asked hurriedly.
Hearing Li Shen's words, Xuanzang raised his head and bowed:
"Amitabha, Your Highness, King Ji, greed is actually born from the heart, and greed is the root of all troubles.
Greed and failure to obtain gives rise to anger, greed and failure to desire what others have gives rise to jealousy.
The greed of ordinary people is nothing more than money, sex, fame, food and sleep. It is said that desire confuses the mind and profit makes the mind dim. Once greed becomes serious, it is difficult to find peace and happiness.
Xuanzang did not directly answer Li Shen's question, nor did he give any method, nor did he dare to.
What is said is nothing more than the meaning in the Buddhist scriptures.
Li Shen was confused by what he heard, but he could understand the general meaning. This is what everyone in the world wants.
Just like Li Zhi and Li Tai, aren't they also greedy for power? They want to sit in that position.
“The Master is right, greed breeds desire, everything is caused by greed.
This king is indeed a little greedy, wanting too much, and should suffer some hardships. " Li Shen nodded, reflecting on his mistakes.
Xuanzang looked at Li Shen and shook his head:
“Your Highness Prince Ji, everyone in the world is like this, it’s human nature.
That is why some people convert to Buddhism, practice Buddhist teachings, and want to transcend worldly sufferings.
The prince suffers from greed. In fact, if you think about it from another perspective, His Majesty is the prince's father, and the prince gives His Majesty so much money out of filial piety.
This is a great kindness.”
(Yuance was the grandson of the King of Silla. He came to Chang'an at the age of fifteen. After his death, he was buried in the northern valley of Xiangshan Temple in Longmen, Luoyang. His disciples Cishan and Zangzhuang received part of his remains and buried them in Zhongnan Mountain.)
